Old American Flags

I meant to post this a little bit earlier. This old flag is from the Ethics of Success Reader that I first started posting images from on this blog when I first started it. But I thought I'd wait until closer to July 4th to post it. It only has 30 stars on it. Apparently this flag became the official flag for the United States on July 4th, 1848. www.usflag.org/history/the30starflag.html

Sad Boy

This is such a sad boy sitting by himself amongst the trees and grass and a hat and basket by his side with a village behind him, but he looks forlorn as he slumps forward and rubs his eye with his hand.

Although this illustration has such a sad subject I think it would look nice "painted" (whether digitally or not).

Little Boy Sharing with Little Girl

Here is a cute image of a young boy (yes, that is a boy in that funny dress like clothing) offering food (perhaps a muffin?) to a young girl carrying a doll underneath her arm. This is a nice image portraying kindness and the act of sharing.

Woman and Girls with a Basket

Here is an image of a woman holding a basket and showing its contents to two little girls. The original context of this image is in regards to how the basket is for charity and filled with items for the poor. But you can use your own imagination to decide what is in the basket and adapt it for your own use.

Little Girl with Flowers

Here is another charming, spring like public domain image for you of a little girl with a bonnet tied onto her head, holding flowers (lilies I think?) and looking down with a cheerful, sweet smile. I think so many cute things could be done using this old black and white illustration.

Girl Feeding Birds

Here is a nice cheery, warm spring/summer public domain image for you of a girl standing before a tree and feeding some birds. The books (and pencil) in her hand makes me think perhaps she was on her way to or from school. I love her Victorian clothes with a short skirted dress, large lace collar, cute little button up shoes and large hat that has slid off to the back of her head. Plus she has darling little curls and a sweet, big bow on one side of her head as well.
I cannot tell what she is feeding the birds, but it must be something to get them excited as there are not only a couple of birds on the ground, but also several birds birds flying out of the tree to investigate.

Children at Church During Christmas

The title for this image in the vintage book I got it from was "The Christmas Festival." You can see in the image Victorian era children in winter clothes of coats, hats and hand muffs, sitting in the church pews, some stained glass windows, and what appears to be holly boughs tied to the columns in the church.

I think the girls in this image look so charming and cute. It might make for a nice Christmas card.

Shoveling Snow

Oh there is snow outside...lots of it. So this black and white illustration of a boy wearing a coat, mittens, boots and a fun stocking cap, while he is shoveling snow is very appropriate.

This public domain winter scene image could be good for illustrating a blog post about cold, snowy weather. Or be used to make a greeting card or holiday ornament.

The Sheep and the Shepherd

I have gotten a bit behind in my posting more public domain images from this old children's reader I have. So here is a pretty detailed, black and white illustration of a shepherd and sheep, with scenery of bushes, trees and a cloud filled sky in the background.

A Rescued Dog

I know many people who love dogs and who rescue dogs that would love this vintage image of a Victorian girl and a dog with a bandaged foot as she gives him some food. It came from a section of the Ethics of Success reader in a section called Little Virtues, in which a girl finds an injured dog, nurses it back to health and finds its owner.

Here is a nice, vintage, public domain illustration from my scans for nature lovers...a squirrel in a tree glancing at a nest with eggs in it.

Big Sister

Here is another sweet, public domain image from the Victorian/Edwardian era for you to use for crafts or print on demand products, or what have you. In this one an older girl holds the hand of a cute toddler, probably a sibling. I think she is holding a ball in her other hand, but I am not sure.

Boy and Girl Studying

It seems that children with books is a common theme in the Ethics for Success reader that I have scanned many images from for this blog. Here is yet another one. Here is an illustration of a boy and a girl, perhaps studying or writing a letter to someone. The girl holds a book open with one hand, while the boy writes a letter with a fountain pen and an inkwell that is in front of him. A shelf or fireplace mantel with a clock, books and candlesticks are in the background behind them.

What is in the Parcel?

In this vintage illustration an older girl holds a parcel (wrapped box) in her hands, about to unwrap it, as a younger sibling looks on. This image would perhaps be good for a birthday or Christmas card?

Reading a Book Together Clipart

This little boy and girl are reading together in what may be an old fashioned school room. The girl seems to have a slate or some sort of writing surface on her lap, while they sit on a bench, and peer at the book that the boy holds together.

Studious Girl Reading & Decorative Scroll

This picture of a girl sitting on a porch and reading a book is probably one of my favorite images I have found in the Ethics of Success children's reader I've been scanning images from. Probably because I love books so much. I'm sure many other book lovers will enjoy it as well.

Boy Playing Baseball - Vintage

Here is a young man with an old fashioned baseball mitt. The old book I got it from had the caption underneath this picture as "Roland" and told of a boy who had formed "good habits" and didn't swear or use slang and tried to be the best at everything and so was very good at baseball.

Children in an Orchard

I think this is such a sweet picture of three children, a boy, a girl and a baby/toddler (that could be either a boy or girl) under an apple tree, picking up fallen apples and putting them in a basket. This public domain picture accompanied a lesson, from the Ethics of Success reader for children, about getting one's work done before play.

Father and Son Fishing Trip Clipart

A man and a boy, perhaps father and son. The man wearing a hat carries a bamboo fishing rod over his shoulder and a basket on his other arm. The boy wears a sailor / school boy like outfit and holds a straw hat in one hand. A sail boat is in the far distance.

I can see someone crafty using this image to create a Father's Day card.

Planting Seeds Garden Clipart

Here is a nice vintage image of a woman and a boy, probably mother and son, preparing to plant a bag of grass seeds that the woman holds in her hands. They are surrounded by plants, a watering can, some flower pots, and a few gardening tools.

It is another selection from the old reader I have called Ethics of Success.
