Man and Woman Reading a Paper

This is one of my favorite images I have come across in my hunt for vintage images. It is of a retro style man and woman holding and reading a paper. The woman has a rose in her well coiffed hair. The paper they are reading provides a nice "frame" or sign for sales messages and announcements or whatever else you can some up with. I think it's very versatile.

I liked this image so much that not only did I clean it up, I "vectorized" it so it has nice, crisp clean lines. I am providing a small version of this for free, in png format. It's 365 x 500 pixels at 100 dpi.

Boys with Newspaper

I'm making an extra post today because I just found this picture of some boys with a newspaper and someone once requested that I keep my eye out for "newspaper boys" or "newsies" so I thought I'd add this one to the blog.

These young men are from the year 1911. Love the cap on the one kid, and the long shorts and the jackets on all of them. I wonder if they are checking out the sports pages?

Cartoon Newsboy - Public Domain Clip Art

Got news to announce? Here is a cartoon newsboy with newspapers in hand and an excited expression on his face to help announce that special moment, idea, or what have you to your friends, family, or the world. This urchin of the streets has character and spunk, don't you think?

Here also is the original version which shows the newsie talking to an elderly gentleman with a long beard, spectacles, hat and an umbrella. (I've removed the original text beneath, that with the slang and context of events of the time would probably have little meaning to modern readers...I could barely make heads or tales of it. To be honest I've found I often don't understand the jokes and cartoons from the early 1900s. With the text removed you can easily add your own captions anyway.)

Lively Lads

This is a fun illustration of four, cheerful boys from a vintage newspaper ad from 1912 advertising for the "nobbiest and newest offerings in Neckwear, Caps, Hats and other wearables" including shoes. They are rigged out in what are a few different examples of the fashion styles for boys of the 1910s era, including knee length pants and stockings and shoes with spats. Two of them are wearing nautical inspired suits and the others look like what I tend to think of as "newspaper boys" although I am sure it was typical schoolboy dress as well.

I've cleaned the image up, although there are a few flaws from the newspaper printing that someone may want to improve upon (it's easier to see it at full size).

Pretty Edwardian Lady Portrait

This is a little too belated for Valentine's Day, but here is a pretty illustrated portrait of an Edwardian lady in what may be an evening gown. A simple oval frame with rectangles and hearts as accents frames her. She looks somewhat similar to a Gibson girl illustration.

This comes from an old advertisement in a newspaper from the year 1909.

Laundry Warriors?

This may not be the most useful of images for clip art. I am just posting it here mostly because I found it amusing...what the heck does this image of one man smoking a pipe and another holding a weapon of some sort as they stare in the direction of the sun...have to do with laundry? I think they are knights perhaps (their hoods and bulky clothing perhaps being chain mail?).

The image could be edited to remove the text if one actually has a use for the illustration.

Antique Automobile Car Clip Art

Here is a cool public domain image for your use of an antique automobile for your use that came from a newspaper ad from 1907. This particular model is actually a Pope-Toledo Touring Car. Don't you think it would be fun to ride around in one of these?

I've cleaned up and darkened this image quite a bit to make it look more sharp. And unlike some of the other images I have done in the past I made this one a transparent png image.
